As moms, it’s easy to let our children’s responses become a measure of how well we’re doing. Their attitude, disappointment, or anger can quickly make us question ourselves.
But our children were never meant to carry the weight of validating us.
If their approval determines our value, then their disapproval will have the power to shake it. And I’ll admit that I’ve been shaken a time or two.
Our kids may misunderstand us. They may not like the boundaries we set or the decisions we make. But their response does not determine our worth.
Our identity is anchored in the steady, unwavering love of God.
The more we believe our worth is found in God’s love, the less we need our children’s responses to help us find it.
