They’re learning from me… even when I’m not at my best.
I wish I could remember that more!
Because of course I want my kids to learn from me when I’m patient, thoughtful, and responding the way I know I should.
But they’re learning from the other moments too.
The rushed moments. The frustrated moments. The times I’m overwhelmed and my words come out sharper than I intended.
And those moments matter.
Galatians 5 tells us that gentleness is a fruit of the Spirit. It’s not just a personality trait for naturally calm people. It’s something the Holy Spirit wants to produce in us… even when we’re under pressure.
And our kids get a front-row seat to that process. Eeek!
But they don’t need to see a mom who never gets frustrated. They need to see a mom who keeps allowing the Holy Spirit to shape the way she responds when she does.
I definitely don’t get this right every time.
But I want my words, even under pressure, to increasingly sound like someone who is becoming more like Jesus.
