Some days, patience feels like it’s sitting in a tiny little cup we somehow expect to last all day—through the questions, the noise, the interruptions, and the emotions. And when it runs out faster than we hoped, it’s easy to feel frustrated with ourselves or wonder what we’re doing wrong.
But maybe the tiny cup isn’t the problem.
Maybe it’s the invitation.
God never intended for us to live off our own supply of patience, strength, or self-control. He knows our limits. He sees how quickly we run empty. And instead of meeting us with disappointment, He meets us with grace—inviting us to come back again and again for what only He can give.
In the middle of a hard moment, we can pause and pray, “Holy Spirit, give me Your patience right now.” Not patience we force or fake, but the kind that comes from His presence filling us. And every time we return, He’s faithful to meet us there.
Scripture reminds us, “Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.” (Psalm 16:5)
Our cup may be small, but our God is not. And when our cup runs out, it’s simply a reminder to draw near—to let Him be our portion once again.
So if today feels heavy and your patience feels thin, don’t see it as failure. See it as an invitation. Come back. Stay close. Bring your tiny cup to a big God who is always ready to fill it.
